Educational Scholarships

BTGI is proud to have provided middle school, high school, university and trade school educational scholarships!

Hilda* is a young woman who lives with her single mom in Guatemala.  Finishing middle school with excellent grades, Hilda was not able to continue her studies due to the high cost of secondary education in Guatemala.  High school in Guatemala is like vocational school in the U.S., and a must to be able to support herself and her mother.  Thanks to an educational scholarship from BTGI covering the cost of classes, books, and transportation, Hilda graduated high school with honors! BTGI's Vice President was able to attend Hilda’s high school graduation ceremony in Guatemala and commented on how many times Hilda's name was called for awards at the ceremony!  Educational scholarships with BTGI include a volunteer requirement, and Hilda completed her hours at an organization that works with the Guatemala City garbage dump serving children and families who live and work in the dump as scavengers. Even after completing her required volunteer hours, Hilda continued to use her free time at the garbage dump tutoring children in their studies. Hilda says she loved to be able to give even as she herself was receiving - and her dream is to someday provide a BTGI scholarship for another young woman like herself with the intelligence, drive and determination, but no opportunity. Hilda is now attending university on a full-ride merits scholarship and attributes her success to BTGI donors who made it possible.
